Windows 10 End of Life

Windows 10 – 2025 Expiration
Windows 10 End of Life – what does this mean for your school hardware and cyber security?

Microsoft has announced that Windows 10 will be reaching its end of life in 2025, this means your school will now have to upgrade all software to Windows 11 before this date to ensure your systems remain supported. This may include upgrades from unsupported hardware if you are currently using older PC and laptop models.

Failure to plan ahead and upgrade your software will mean your school is not complying to the Department of Education’s recommended digital and technological standards and your devices will be left open to cyber attacks and malware.

With a range of Windows 11 compatible hardware options available, we are here to help your school ensure all software and devices are ready before the end-of-life deadline.

Now is the time to get ahead of the change and upgrade your software prior to 2025.

At Tel Group we can help you transition from Windows 10 to Windows 11, providing compatible devices at an affordable price, just get in touch today!

What is happening?

Microsoft recently announced the latest release of Windows 10 (22H2) will be the final release of Windows 10. Support for release 22H2 will continue until October 2025 at which point it will receive no further updates. Some earlier releases are already unsupported: 20H2 or earlier.

What does this mean for my school?

As it did with Windows 7 in January 2020, Microsoft will stop supporting Windows 10 in 2025. Whilst you will still be able to use the software you won’t receive any more security or feature updates or patches.

Without these your computer is at risk of malware and other vulnerabilities that can expose you to hacks, viruses and more.

To meet the updated digital and technology standards issued by the Department of Education, all online devices and software must be licensed for use and should be patched with the latest security updates. It is specified that your school must avoid or replace unpatched or unsupported hardware or software, including operating systems as these devices are the most popular targets for successful cyber-attacks.

It is therefore recommended to upgrade to Windows 11 prior to then to ensure your systems remain supported and you ensure compliance with the minimum requirements issued by the DfE.

Windows 11 Minimum Requirements

Windows 11 has higher hardware requirements that excludes many older PCs and laptops as many older CPUs and motherboard types are not supported.

This may mean some devices will need to be replaced to ensure compatibility with the latest update.

Windows 11 for Education is designed to offer better security, performance, and user experience. Reimagined for a new era of digital learning, Windows 11 will help to unlock a student’s potential with powerful tools to learn, collaborate and create— all in a secure and trusted environment.

  • “We are delighted with our new phone system. The call minder system has been revolutionary for the office team.

Since implementation, we had one morning with no internet and the telephone connectivity continued. The install was super speedy with no disruption to our working day, and the training and information provided has completely fulfilled our needs.

My only issue…. was that we did not do this 3 years ago! We are also saving money, which is always good for a school. I couldn’t recommend Tel Group highly enough.”

Sandra May, School Business Manager – Bushy Hill Junior School
  • “We recently transferred our telephone system to digital from analogue in preperation for the 2025 BT Switch Off.

The transition was easy and happened almost without us knowing, keeping the same numbers so no disruption to parents.

Tel Group are knowledgeable and friendly and respond quickly to any issues arising, they are also transparent in terms of costs.

I would recommend them without hesitation.”

Alison Price, School Business Manager – Ashfield Park Primary School
  • “We joined a group of schools who all purchased upgraded telephone systems from Tel Group. This process included group face to face discussions with 3 members of Tel Group staff who were all very informative.

We found the installation process to be efficient. I have not had to contact customer service on many occasions, but when I have response time has been good.

I have found Tel Group as a whole to be friendly, with knowledgeable staff and our new telephone system meets our requirements.”
