Martyn’s Law
Is your school ready to enhance safety and meet the new security expectations set out by Martyn’s Law?
In today’s world, safeguarding pupils, staff, and visitors is more critical than ever.
With the introduction of the Terrorism (Protection of Premises) Act 2025 — known as Martyn’s Law — there is now a clearer framework to help education settings strengthen their emergency preparedness and overall security procedures.
While a grace period (at least 24 months) allows time for schools to prepare before full implementation, now is the time to assess your current measures and plan for the future.
At Tel Group, we support schools in understanding what security measures you should have in place. From emergency planning and lockdown systems to staff training and advanced surveillance systems, we’re here to help you build a safer, more resilient school environment.

How Martyn’s Law Impacts the Education Sector
What is Martyn’s Law?
The Terrorism (Protection of Premises) Act 2025, commonly known as Martyn’s Law, received Royal Assent on 3 April 2025.
The legislation aims to enhance security and emergency preparedness across the UK, requiring organisations to have clear and effective response plans in place to tackle potential terrorist threats.
School leaders should take proactive steps now to strengthen their security procedures across the school site and prepare accordingly.
Key Requirements:
To meet the expectations of Martyn’s Law, schools should take clear, practical steps that enhance their preparedness and response to potential threats.
- Schools must establish procedures that reduce the risk of harm during a terrorist attack — including clear plans for evacuation, lockdown, and communication.
- Schools must ensure that all staff and students are familiar with the emergency plans and are well-prepared to carry them out quickly, confidently, and effectively when needed.
- Schools must notify the Security Industry Authority (SIA) about their compliance with the new regulations.
The Importance for the Education Sector:
Martyn’s Law not only strengthens school security, but also supports your wider duty of care – promoting clearer procedures, defined responsibilities, and higher safety standards.
But with evolving regulations and advancing tech, staying compliant and protecting your school can feel overwhelming.
